Objectives

  • To foster ‘convergent clinical exercise experts’ who lead changes in rapidly changing sports medicine field in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era and foster future potential for contributing to national health improvement.
  • To foster ‘athlete training experts’ who lead various changes in sports medicine field, meet state and timely demands, and lead international standards.
  • Foster ‘creative sports medicine-related R&D experts’ who expand sports medicine field and conduct scientific research to make continuous challenges to connect theory and practice.

  • The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic involves both increasing and decreasing factors. It has negative impact on outdoor and indoor sports but has positive impact on home training and personal training.

  • To instruct training of professional athletes, establish strategies for physical fitness improvement and injury prevention, and manage matters related to athletes’ physical fitness and performance improvement.

  • Sports industry has infinite potential as high value-added industry, and it is expected to maintain current employment status with increasing awareness that good performance in international sports contents is directly related to boosting national image.

  • To conduct research required for national health and physical fitness management, provide research results for sports policymaking, and apply to sports for all.

Duties

  • To collect virtual training data depending on type of virtual training content and develop scenario based on virtual training procedure. To select hardware and software for 360-degree VR video and film and edit VR images and videos.
  • To develop smart healthcare service that uses accessories or wearable devices, such as health measuring device, to help individuals check exercise amount, ECGs, heart beat, etc., and manage health on their own.

Future Prospects

  • The Korean smart healthcare market is expected to record average annual growth rate of 20% from 3.4 trillion won in 2014 to 14 trillion won in 2020. The outstanding major companies in Korea are actively collaborating with hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, etc., to expand to the market. Especially, combination of IoT, ICT, and bigdata is expected to solve many pending issues in the healthcare field, such as medical and social expenditure and health management efficiency. In response, it shows high growth potential and related service developers have good future prospects.
  • However, investment risk is relatively high due to development cost. In addition, market is rapidly changing and delays in sales approval may disturb market occupation and cause in falling behind.

Duties

  • To train psychological techniques for managing anxiety and improving confidence of professional athletes and intervene to athletes suffering from risks, such as depression, career change, and injury.
  • To provide consulting service and lecture for parents and consult about leadership, communication, and affection to enhance teamwork.

Future Prospects

  • The consulting psychological technique training is utilized to improve professional athletes’ technique, performance, and mental state. In Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom, sports psychologists participate in psychological training program for national team members and athletes.
  • The Korean professional sports teams hire sports psychology consultants to care professional athletes. The sports psychology consultants are also expected to play an important role in consulting and supporting performance improvement, career selection, etc., for students who study and train sports at the same time.
